Edit. No Truer Word Was Ever Spoken

If you are gong to name your boutique 'Edit' it had better live up to it's name. Edit, which opened last October, could quite possibly be my new favorite store, and I don't say that lightly. Located at 1368 Lexington Avenue (near 91st Street), I had walked by what I had presumed to be the small store a few times, but always it seemed on a Sunday when it was closed. This past week I was able to finally walk through the door and was I amazed! It was like being home. No seriously. It's like walking into a town home. A gorgeous one at that.

I was warmly greeted by the manager, Jamie as soon as I walked through the door. What a pleasant surprise for the Upper East Side! As a transplant from Chicago, I am still amazed when someone is sincerely kind when you walk through the door of a store in New York. Jamie asked to take my coat, but I was transfixed by the gorgeous crystal chandelier that hung from the second floor brilliantly...over the jewelry display. The store is rather large. Something you don't pick up on from the street.

What I noticed immediately was that the store was (pardon the bad pun) perfectly edited. You can tell owners, Valerie Feigen and Alissa Emerson painstakingly poured over every detail of the perfectly appointed store. From the selection of designers to the flooring, you can tell this boutique was a labor of love, sweat and tears.

Alissa had previously owned the store Tuesday's Child in Scarsdale. Valerie had been one of her best customers for many years, before they decided to open a store together on the Upper East Side. Their goal was to create a warm and inviting homelike feeling. One where customers would want to come 'home' weekly. There is a library upstairs where you can set your husband or the kids in front of a fireplace or pop in a video on the flat screen while you shop. The library overlooks a private garden which will be ideal for hosting events come spring. Adding to the homelike feel are the two resident dogs that seem to own the upstairs.

You can't just make a pretty store to ensure repeat business, you need to stock it with apparel and accessories that women instantly want. More than that, you have to have a constant flow of merchandise. The employees of Edit are more like personal shopper/wardrobe consultants who you can tell truly enjoy helping customers with outffiting.

The range of designers include some 50 plus lines ranging from J Brand jeans to Derek Lam evening dresses. The overall style of their merchandise is classically chic, but wearable. You could essentially buy everything you need at Edit. We are talking from shoes to handbags to jewelry to dresses to coats. Alissa has an eye for picking the best piece or two from each designer which would explain why I was constantly touching every other item my eyes rested upon. There are fine apparel items by Derek Lam, Tuleh and Martin Grant as well as stellar items from contemporary designers like 3.1 Phillip Lim, Charles Chang Lima and Hanii Y. The jewelry collection includes pieces from Temple St. Clair to Jamie Joseph. Handbag names included favorite, Anya Hindmarch, Henry Beguelin and a brand I was introduced to...Cesaire.

I could say much more about my new favorite store, but I recommend you check it out for yourself if you have not already. I may just see you there!
